House Hunting

Our lease is up on our home soon so we've been looking at houses to buy. Well, I should say I've been looking at houses. Once I find one that isn't a) covered in animal feces b)spotted with black mold c)using extension cords as a permanent power supply d)straight outta an episode of Hoarders, I'll have my husband take a look at it. See, my hubs (as much as I love the man) is a bit of a snob. When we first started house hunting we looked at 2 houses that were definite no's. They weren't terrible (one had the back door kicked in from a recent burglary and had some rough looking characters in the neighboring house eyeballing the rims on our car BUT nothing we couldn't handle) just not our style. My hubs got all sad faced and disappointed.....after only 2 houses!!! I decided right then I would weed out the disasters and only show him the decent homes.
See we are working with a very limited amount of money to purchase a home. So that narrows down the listings we can look at. I've seen some scary houses the last few weeks. Like take a match to it and walk away scary.
I've looked in several different neighborhoods. We decided we like the Lakeside Park area, Oakdale neighborhood, and of course right where we are, Arlington Park subdivision. I'm partial to moving closer to urban areas. Being from St. Louis, I feel more at home in a high energy city scape. Everyone I tell this too warns me about the crime and "rough neighborhoods" I just giggle. Really? Rough 'hoods in Fort Wayne? I'm from STL, you can't scare me!!
We are waiting to hear back from the sellers of a cah-ute little American Foursquare home on Oakdale Drive. We had the inspection done Mon. and there's a few (ok, a laundry list) things that need repaired. We chose to have the sellers clean up a slight mold problem in the basement and the wacky electrical situation they've got going on in the basement and the garage. I hope they either fix it or knock off another $10k from the price. It's a wonderful home. I can see my family growing up and growing old there. I'm already compiling a list of things I want to do to it. And it's yellow. I loves me a yellow house!

New to the neighborhood!

I figure starting a blog at this point in my family's life is appropriate. We just had a baby boy 6 weeks ago, my husband is changing jobs*, we are buying a house and moving, and I plan on starting college in the fall**. So with life being so boring lately I figured I'd add one more thing to the craziness, ergo this blog.
Not sure what direction I want to go with this though. More of a family blog? Or perhaps a blog about our house renovations and improvements (when we close on said house that is)? How about a blog that's mostly about me?***
I'll decide by the next post.
To be continued................

*Which will cause him to be out of state for weeks on end. Sigh.
**Again. For the fourth time. Hey, I've got 30 credits under my belt. Only took me a few decades collectively. Go me!
